I was reminded yesterday about a book I haven’t read for a while – The E-Myth by Michael Gerber

If you haven’t read it I strongly suggest you do – here’s a link to read more about it

There are many great lines in the book, you know – ones that make you think “Of Course” or “Oh My – He is talking about me – I do that”, or “Aha!”

The premise of the book is you can’t get really successful in business by being the person who does the work. On that basis I made a decision at Christmas. I decided I am going to cut down the amount of recruitment work I actually do to maybe 10% of what it was last year. I am not saying recruitment will not be done @carolefossey.com – that would be criminal given that we are so good at it – just that I will no longer be doing most of it.

The reason for this is simple. I re-read the book. And I realised – I will never get the business where I want it to be unless my focus is running the business not doing the business.

Yes – I know – it’s taken me long enough to come to that conclusion hasn’t it!

This letting go process has been cathartic and has allowed me head space to develop my bigger picture plan for this year – including the 3 new books I plan to write, the development of the social media business into a full service digital agency and the development of the recruitment process training membership site.

On the social media side we have implemented a plan this month which has dramatically increased our follower and engagement rate (and no, before you ask – it didn’t involve buying followers) and we have hired some amazing talent on the web development side. The team we have on board has done some of the biggest retail sites in the UK. And we should know how to spot the talent there as recruiting web people is something I have been doing since 1996!

Anyway – on that note actually and because we are currently testing our processes on this side before a proper launch later this year – if you or anyone you know – is considering an update of your website this year – or you just want some advice on what could be better – then let me know and we will do a free website audit from our new gurus on your website. Did you know the majority of websites are not fully optimised for mobile and with mobile set to overtake laptop/pc’s this year for the first time, isn’t it time you made that change (if you haven’t already).
